Deir Ezzor – The Islamic State (ISIS) burned four civilians to death on Tuesday, shocking the inhabitants of Deir ez-Zor city. The unfortunate men had been charged with supporting the “Kurdish atheists,” apostasy and treason.
“ISIS radicals burned them to death in public on Tuesday evening,” reported Ahmed Ramadan, a spokesman for Deir ez-Zor is Being Slaughtered Silently (DBSS). “The Sharia Court called for the most brutal punishment for those four men.”
The ISIS-led Islamic Police, also known as Diwan al-Hisba, had arrested the civilians three months ago. They were eventually charged with supporting the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) and leaking information about the extremist group’s movements in Deir ez-Zor.
As the Syrian Democratic Forces’ (SDF) leading member, the YPG are fighting ISIS on multiple fronts in northern Syria. They recently embarked on a campaign to eliminate the Islamic State in its de facto capital, Raqqa city.
The Sharia Court of Deir ez-Zor said in a statement that after “interrogations” the suspects “confessed” to supporting and cooperating with the YPG. The court determined that their actions represented the men’s conscious abandonment of Islam, so they were convicted of apostasy as well as treason.
An eyewitness told ARA News that “hundreds of people witnessed the execution, including the victims’ families who were forced to watch their sons being burned to death.” The jihadists reportedly dumped their victims’ charred bodies into the Euphrates River.
